What kind of microphone is the BY-MM1+?
It’s a Super-cardioid shotgun microphone.
What do you get in the box?
You get the BY-MM1+ microphone, a shock mount, furry windscreen, a TRRS to TRS cable, a TRRS to TRRS cable and last but not least a pouch.
What kind of material is the body made of?
The microphone is made of aluminum. It has a high-quality feel to it.
How much does BY-MM1+ weigh?
About 80 grams. For my American friends this is how much that is in pounds: 0,18.
Which device is BY-MM1+ compatible with?
According to Boya the BY-MM1+ is compatible with tablets, DSLRs, consumer camcorder, Pcs and more due to its plug and play operation and no battery required design.
How do I mount the microphone to my camera?
You attach the BY-MM1+ to the shock mount and then slide the shock mount into the hot shoe.
Can I mount the microphone to a boom arm?
The shock mount has a ¼ inch thread at the bottom. So you can mount it to anything with a ¼ inch screw.
Is it true that the BY-MM1+ has a headphone output?
Yes, it does. However! This feature is not available when using the microphone on a camera.
Can I monitor the audio during recording?
Uhm… yes, but! There is a huge ‘but’. Boya says: “with compatible apps”, but they couldn’t tell me which app when I contacted them. Normally you can only listen to the audio during playback. However, I’ve found a way to do it during recording. If you want to know how, check out this video!
Is the BY-MM1+ good for recording outside?
If there’s zero wind, sure. If it’s windy, not really.
Is the BY-MM1+ good for recording inside?
Yes. No doubt!
Is the audio quality good?
Personally, I think the audio quality is good for the price that you pay. But don’t take my word for it. Check my review and you be the judge of it.
Is the BY-MM1+ good for interviews?
If you’re going to record inside, yes. If you want to record outside make sure there’s no wind. If it’s windy your audio is going to be bad.
There are fake versions of the Boya BY-MM1+ out there. How do I know if mine is real?
There are a couple of ways that you can do this. Check out this video to see how!
The way I did it is by scanning the QR code on the box. It takes you to a page on the Boya website which will confirm if the microphone is real or not.
